As the colour changes for the new season, so does Shima Photography. You will start to notice on the site small changes during this summer, but major things are happening for the fall. TWO new sites will be added to the children photography line dedicated for weddings and families. I have many images to show from over the years that have been stuck on my HD and finally, it is exciting to get them organized. As child photography is my main passion, these added sites will complete the full line. Stay tuned…

June 24, 2008Airdrie vs Calgary
June 23, 2008I have been doing ALOT of business planning the last while to develop the biz into full service and came across some interesting facts (currently I am a Airdrie resident and business owner)…
Approx. 85% of clients are in Calgary vs approx. 10% in Airdrie (5% other)!! Now, you are thinking… what does that mean?! I really don’t fully understand it myself – but highly interesting. All you bloggers out there, where do you live?
On another note, this babe was the most sound thing EVER! Basically, it was working with putty in my hands for this cutie. It makes my heart sing when I get imagery like these!
Humanity – M.I.L.K. Project Part I
June 22, 2008As you read several excerpts in the next few weeks from the internationally known M.I.L.K. project (which is my soulful inspiration of being a photographer to creating my imagery), I hope this allows you to take away something.
” Family is the last and greatest discovery. It is our last miracle.
It’s a sad reality that we’ve entered this new millennium shorn of wisdom, with the same appalling ignorance with which we entered the last: old men still send young men off to die in silly wars; countries are still run by politicians with the kind of ice-cold smiles that keep kids up at night; we still invent numerous ways to gas, annihilate, shoot, maim, kill and destroy each other.
Yet none of those things equals the power of a child’s trembling, tapping fingers on a sleeping papa’s face. No bomb can destroy the memory of the sweet smell of a mama’s breast. No amount of Internet access can replicate the freckle-faced grin of your kid brother who’s missing two front teeth.
Family is the last line of reason in a world that still allows 125 million children to go to bed hungry every night. Without it, we are all a tribe of nomads, cut adrift, disconnected, wandering the earth with neither time nor place nor history to give our aching souls a home.
We’re being globalized to death, our souls and history plagiarized by anxious souls angling for a share of the percentage, while our families and tribes and cultures slowly and quietly vanish.
The imagery in M.I.L.K. (or any photographic imagery), reach beyond the atrocity of mindless developers and nameless corporations who sandbag our world, building faceless modular homes and bulldozing trails and forests that once held dirt, sweat, toil, wildlife and children’s footprints. They chronicle what lasts and will always last; a mother’s love, a grandpa’s pride, a child’s giggle, a father’s sorrow. Family love is stronger than steel and concrete. Family love is like the wind; instinctive, raw, fragile, beautiful, at times angry, but always unstoppable. It is our collective breath. It is the world’s greatest force.”
p.s. you both are going to have alot of love for those twins your bringing into the world! See you soon!
Little Models
June 22, 2008So… hello! I am in the process of designing a couple lines of imagery and need little models (from babies to tweens). There is a set of criteria for each style and if you are interested for your child to be in my portfolio, please contact me at kristen@kristenshima.com by the end of July 31st. In return, I offer something special for your time! I am scheduling these few design sessions in August and are limited if chosen. I sincerely appreciate all that are interested.
Art Auction Fundraiser for Food Bank
June 6, 2008As another part of my life, I strongly support the arts and started with a group of other artists to form the new Airdrie Regional ARTS Society as of this year. It is about bringing ARTS to the community and community to the ARTS by being an umbrella for all art forms (visual, drama, dance, literary, etc.) in Airdrie. Well, hello everyone…
June 3, 2008So, just to start off with first - yes, I have been MIA and second, to be honest, I do have a sincere love/hate relationship with the blogging thing. It is true. Why? if you must ask… well, with the blog I think it is lovely giving info on updates, but it is truly so heavily one sided and really I can be talking myself up over here – doing this, doing that, etc… so I decided to turn it around a little bit (still giving you updates), but to make it more meaningful and honest for myself and hopefully for you too.
For the updates… (this is the “this and that” section as I have been MIA) 1. I have established a new logo… yeah – after over 4 years in the biz I get a facelift. I can really say, you have to know yourself as a person/photographer to establish a design/look, it is certainly a hard process! A new blog and page will be also releasing shortly, so it will give you more of a feel of my style. 2. Wow – can I say my clients rock!!! You have been such hugh supporters for the Heartprints Program and the donations will be forwarded to the China Relief Program due to the tragedies over this last month. Many hugs to all. 3. Thank you! This is one from the bottom of my heart – I cannot tell you how hard this industry can be, but because of all my ”wicked” clients over the years and new ones, I am at a level doing advance bookings – yeah! I am almost booked for the summer and now accepting fall sessions – this is such a HUGE goal and accomplishment of mine. I thank you so very much! 4. Finally, with the studio almost done I can feel I will be giving clients full service, and have hired some extra help, a huge hearted individual - Amy, over the last while to start implementing these services. You will get to know her soon!
So, without further information – here are a couple to reflect on… I adore eyelashes. They are such a fine detail of beauty and childhood. Enjoy! Take care everyone and have a great week!
